Hans Rosenberg Book and Article Prizes
The Central European History Society sponsors a book prize and an article prize named after the pioneering social historian Hans Rosenberg. The prizes are given for the best work done in Central European history. The book prize is awarded every year and article prize every other year. Nominations can be made by individuals and by presses. In 2011 the Central European History Society is awarding its article and book prizes; the article prize considers essays from 2009 and 2010; the book prize is reserved for scholarship with a 2010 imprint. Nominations for the prizes are welcome from members, authors, and presses. The submission deadline for the book prize is June 30th.

The Central European History Society awards the biennial Hans Rosenberg Article Prize, which distinguishes the best English-language article or essay on central European history written by permanent residents of North America. The Central European History Society thus solicits nominations from authors, journal editors, presses, and third parties for the best article or essay published in 2009 or 2010. The prize committee will consider journal articles as well as individual essays from anthologies or collections. Re-printed essays are not eligible; articles and essays published outside North America are, of course, considered. Central European history is understood to include the history of Germany, Austria, and other German-speaking regions of Central European, from the medieval era to the present. The award will be announced in Chicago, January 2012, at the annual meeting of the American Historical Association.
Nominated essays received by July 31, 2011 will receive full consideration. Send one hard copy (no digitial submissions) to each member of the committee:
